What Are The Best Exercises For Six Pack Abs?

Okay, there’s no use beating around the bush. You have been waiting to get amazing abs for a long time already, so I won’t be cutting to the chase anymore. As I have mentioned above, the type of exercises that you do is important in helping you achieve your fitness goals.

What Are Drop Sets

To make sure that you are doing the right exercises, below are some abs exercises that many fitness experts consider to be the best in achieving six pack abs:

1. Cable Crunches

This one exercise must be performed at the gym as it will require the use of various cables and equipment.

Muscles Targeted: Lower and Upper Rectus abdominis

How To Do It: Attach a rope to the overhead pulley. Hold one end of the rope in each hand. Kneel down. As much as you can, hold the rope and try to place it in front of your forehead.

Once you have assumed the position properly, curl your torso and bend your body downward. Round your back, as you move your head towards your knees. You must feel your abdominal muscles crunch together as you make this move.

Hold the position and keep your ab muscles squeezed for 3 seconds or so. Slowly return to your original position afterwards.

2. Vertical Knee Raise

Again, here’s another abs exercise that must be done at the gym because of its requirements.

Muscles Targeted: Rectus abdominis, Rectus femoris, and Abdominal oblique

How To Do It: With the use of an over-hand grip, hold the chin up bar. Let your body hang down and keep the feet close together.

Take your knees closer to your chest. As you do the movement, you must still keep your feet close together. Raise your knees for as high as you possibly can. Hold the position for a second and squeeze your lower ab muscles as you do so. Slowly lower your knees to go back to the starting position and repeat the steps for a few more times.

Pro Tip: If you wish to feel more comfortable, you can attach an arm harness to the chin up bar and secure your arms around it.

3. Abdominal Hold

Doing this exercise may seem a bit awkward at first but rest assured, this exercise has all the moves you need to achieve perfectly toned abs.

Muscles Targeted: Rectus abdominis, oblique muscles

How To Do It: Sit on top of a chair. Make sure it is sturdy. Put your hands at the edge of the chair with fingers pointing towards the knees. Squeeze your ab muscles and place your toes 2-4 inches above the floor. At the same time, try to lift your butt off the chair. Hold the position for 5 -10 seconds. Slowly go back to starting position and repeat the steps for a minute.

4. Side Crunches

Crunches are known to be one of the best exercises in achieving amazing abs plus it stabilizes your core too! But beware, this exercise will put your balancing skills to the test.

Muscles Targeted: Oblique Muscles

How To Do It: Kneel then place your right palm on the floor and lean your body all the way to the right side. After that, extend your left leg with your toes pointed outwards. Try to keep yourself balanced as much as you can.

Put the left hand behind the head with your elbows pointing upwards (the ceiling). Slowly and gently lift your leg up to the height of your hips. As you do so, extend your arms and place it above the leg. The palms must be facing forward.

Bring the left side of your body towards the hip. Go back to starting position and do this six times on one side then do the same on the other side.
